Sano is a new nonprofit research institute dedicated to the advancement of computational medicine, developing sophisticated computer methods for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, to meet the overarching worldwide need for efficient, effective and streamlined healthcare.

What are you going to do?

You are expected to:

  • do original research under the direction of your supervisor;
  • participate in the many seminars by internal and external speakers as well as journal clubs and group activities;
  • collaborate with other PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and other Sano employees, you will have the opportunity to co-learn advanced coding techniques with experienced scientific programmers and data scientists.
What do we require?

As our successful candidate you should have:

  • Master’s degree (completed or near completion) or 1st Class undergraduate Honours degree in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to computer science, biomedical engineering, physics, mathematics, data science, medical sciences;
  • interest in pursuing applied research in a multi-disciplinary environment;
  • excellent written and oral English communication skills.
Our offer

We offer a fixed term contract for 40 hours per week for the duration of 4 years. This will be supported by an educational plan that includes attendance of courses and (international) meetings. The contract will include opportunities to participate in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and master students.


The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be up to 8000 PLN gross per month, based on a full-time contract (40 hours a week) for the duration of 4 years with private medical care and a sports card.


Sano itself doesn’t award degrees – the PhD will be a collaboration between us and one of our partners, including University of Sheffield or AGH University of Science and Technology. The student will be based in Poland, Krakow operating in conjunction with the Cyfronet supercomputing centre hosted by AGH. The student is expected to spend approximately 6 months on international visits to collaborating institutions during the contract.
