Career Opportunities – FNP First Team Project
Sano Centre for Computational Medicine, Kraków, Poland
Sano presents an exciting upcoming opportunity for researchers and aspiring scientists who want to help shape the future of computational biology and personalized medicine. We are preparing to open multiple positions within a newly funded First Team project of the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) focused on developing the world’s first generative foundation model of the human gut microbiome. Head Researcher of the project is Dr. Tomasz Kościółek.
This announcement is intended as an early invitation to express interest. Dedicated job advertisements and formal recruitment processes for a PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher, a scientific programmer, and students will be launched at a later stage.
About the Project
The project, titled “A generative foundation model of the human gut microbiome for digital twin development and biomedical applications,” aims to create a next-generation model capable of supporting biomedical research, diagnostics, prevention, and therapy optimization.
By training microbiomeGPT on large-scale metagenomic datasets, the team will work toward identifying disease biomarkers, simulating microbiome dynamics, and generating patient digital twins to advance precision medicine. This generative approach has the potential to transform how clinicians and researchers understand and intervene in human health.
The initiative brings together leading academic partners and industry collaborators, reinforcing an international and interdisciplinary research environment. Work on the project is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026, and continue through December 31, 2029 at Sano
